Hydrangea involucrata , bracted Hydrangea

Hydrangea involucrata comes mainly from Japan and Taiwan, it is especially interesting because of its special almost peony-shaped flower buds that open spectaculary in spring.

Hydrangea involucrata is usually a small bushy hydrangea, they look like a mini version of the Hydrangea aspera, they are seldom higher than 1m and the leaves are velvety hairy.

Hydrangea involucrata loves a place in the semi-shade to shade, in full sun arises quickly leaf scorch.

This type of hydrangea blooms on year-old wood, which compensates the somewhat lesser hardiness of some cultivars, even if the freeze a part away, they run back out and thrive in the same year.

The cultivar: hortensis has beautiful flowers with double edge and apricot pink flowers, there are plenty of other fascinating species have inflorescences, such as Ha 'Yoraku Tama'
